Midsummer Cabaret

midsummer cabaret audience and choirOur new format summer concert was a lovely event.  Instead of the lunchtime barbecue of recent years, this was an evening cabaret with food and wine.  The village hall was decorated and laid out to provide a jazz club atmosphere and as always, choir members provided excellent refreshments, this time in the form of a cheese ploughman’s and fresh strawberries and cream.

midsummer cabaret choirMusic from Cabaret, Chicago, Sweeney Todd, Fiddler on the Roof and other favourites was enjoyed by both the choir and the audience and this time we were supported and accompanied by an excellent saxophone quartet.

Our autumn / winter concert this year will be “Jubilate”, on 30th November in St James’ Church, Nayland.   We will be joined by a brass ensemble to perform music for choir and brass by composers ranging from the 17th century (Heinrich Schutz’ Psalm 100) to the present day, including the Gloria by John Rutter.   Along the way we will add in motets by Bruckner and others, and music for brass.
