Tickets are selling fast for our wonderful Christmas tour across styles and centuries. Our concert features pieces written for church use, and carols derived from folk tunes. We start with music that echoes the simplicity of plainchant, and finish off with a new setting of an intriguing old Christmas recipe…and while some of the music may be less well known, but others will be very familiar! Make sure of your seat by booking now, at Nayland Events or from Nayland Post Office. See you there!
Our next concert will be on Sunday 11 December. We’ll be conducting a musical tour of Europe, singing the best Christmas songs from across the centuries. Rehearsals start on Thursday 8 September at 8.00pm in Nayland School.
Subscriptions are £40 for the term including score hire. The first two rehearsals are free to try out.
Something‘s coming, we know what it is, and it is gonna be great!

Please book your ticket by Friday 8 July, so that we know how many people to cater for. Tickets are available from naylandevents.org/choir – just click on the poster above. Alternatively, you can buy your ticket from Nayland Post Office.
If you’ve been to one of our summer concerts, you’ll know that the combination of music, food and a long, lazy evening is a social mix not to be missed! We hope to see you there.

If you fancy taking part, rehearsals take place each Thursday at 8.00pm at Nayland School. Choir membership for the term is £40, including music score hire. We have spaces available for sopranos, altos, tenors and basses. No audition is necessary.
Rehearsals will now be held at Nayland Village Hall.
Good news!
Rehearsals for our new term start on Thurs 9th September, back in Nayland School hall at 8pm for 2 hours. It is quite likely that at some point during the term we will have a couple of dedicated rehearsals for note bashing, a separate one each for ladies and gents.
We will be working towards a concert in Nayland Church on Sun 21st November at 4pm, a slightly different timing to previously but hopefully a more popular time for our audience to come out and about.
Government guidance released this week and confirmed yesterday (18th May) now forbids indoor singing in groups larger than 6 people.
As a result, Nayland Choir rehearsals due to start tomorrow evening are cancelled till further notice.
Why this new restriction has been put in place while other restrictions are being eased is not explained. So you can attend dance classes, exercise classes or go to the gym but you cannot sing!
Look out for further notices when things change – again!
At last, it appears we will soon be able to get together as real human beings to once again enjoy the lovely activity of choral singing. This will be a legal activity from 17th May and our first proposed rehearsal is on Thursday 20th May. We are not going to prepare for a formal concert this term. This is to allow everyone to get back into singing and to make it as easy as possible for people to come and sing with us for the first time.
It will be a ten week term of informal sessions at 8.00pm on Thursday evenings, hopefully in our usual venue of Nayland school hall but this is not yet finally confirmed. Nearer the date we will also confirm the measures we will be taking to keep everyone safe.
Folk songs and sea shanties will be the sort of things we will sing this term so that it does not become too taxing. And although there will not be a formal concert, we will probably arrange something informal in the village later in the term.
Then the plan is to work towards a formal choral concert in the autumn term.
As we said – all welcome. Do come and have a good sing!
To attend, pre-registration is necessary. Please send your intention to attend to naylandchoir@gmail.com or cathymargaretallen@gmail.com.
Open air carol singing was enjoyed by a good group singing at venues around the village and finishing at the beautiful village Christmas tree. It reaffirmed the sheer pleasure of harmonising together. It also brought Christmas cheer to those who heard us sing.
That was in the days of Tier 2. Unfortunately, only virtual singing is possible under the current Tier 4 regulations.
